How to block computers on the same network via MAC address

Hey all, I want to block my living room HTPC from seeing the files on my Ubuntu machine, but I still would like to see my files on my ubuntu machine from my main desktop.

How can I block the MAC address of the ubuntu machine from my HTPC?

Hmmm, sounds more like what needs to happen here is you create separate IP addresses for the devices in a subnet. vlans come to mind as well. The third party firmware for routers DD-WRT may allow you to do this. I do run DD-WRT currently, but I'm not really aware of blocking MAC addresses from certain computes. The only true way would be to subnet the computers off. Which means you need two routers.
