hey guys just wondering how to go about buying a .com website. Ill i know how to do is pay people 5 bucks a month for them to host it, i dont want none of that crap. how could i actualy fully own and buy a website?

you have to register a domain. you do that by going to a registrar, and telling them what domain you want. u pay, and its yours! some registrars are network solutions, register.com, go daddy, bulk register, etc. . .

i used go daddy, they are dirt cheap ;)

I dont know what you mean, domain names have a yearly registration fee, though you can pay up to 10 years in advance, you can never really own it forever. It is like rent, dont pay your rent and you get kicked out.
As to the hosting, most places charge monthly or yearly, there is no getting around that as well, unless you host it on your pc and put up with lots of downtime.

so who would you pay it to? im familar with freewebs.com they have free and payable hosting. would you have to host the site through somthing like this or what? i still dont understand how you would register, is their a phisical place you could go to, or is it online?

Online, you go to a registrar of your choice and pay the specified fee to "rent" the domain name you want for a certain amount of time. Then you'll have to rent a server for your site to be hosted on. Some registrars offer hosting in addition to domain name registering, or you can go through a different company for your hosting. After you get a server to rent, you'll get the IP address of the server, and you'll need to set up with your registrar that IP you want your domain name to be associated with.

Well there is free hosting available, but they place advertising on your website in exchange for the free hosting. I think there are also still free domains like the one you have in your signature. But if you want a .com .net .org etc domain then you will have to pay roughly US$10 per year for that.
When I started out, I used free web hosting, though back in those days you could get free hosting without advertisements, but it was very low space and transfer. But these days most options have advertisements.

Domian, about 10$'s a month, www.domainhere.com., or you can use a subdomain with SOME hosts, which is www.youpickhere.hostname.com

Hosting, three things you can do, you can use your computer to run it, which is difficult and complex and your PC must be on all the time, 2, free hosting, there are many places wher you can get "free" hosting, free hosting has limit space and limited bandwith and limited options, and most place adds on your website, 3 you can pay for hosting which will get you addmfree and the best service, more space and more bandwith/features.

If you go with paid hosting ship around for a while before you do, or you may get ripped off.
