How to change which programs start up with the computer.

How do i do this? Also when I go run-misconfig and uncheck some programs it seems when I restart my computer these same it asks me to reset the old way, how it was before. So nothing is changed. I must be doing something wrong.

What is the run part of XP used for anyway? Just curious. I am a bit of a novice with computers.

thats unusal not heard of that, when you uncheck the boxes then click apply it should ask you to restart then click restart is this not what your getting?

What are you unchecking? Sometimes if you uncheck one part of a program but it has another it will ask that. Or, If you uncheck a windows component that is needed it will do that as well.

Here is a program to help manage what gets automatically started upon booting. There are several programs out there and you can use google to find more if you want, but here is one option:

Of course you can use the msconfig method too, but I find the program above pretty handy.
