How to choose which motherboard to buy?

What motherboard is good? What is there to look for in a motherboard that is worth buying? Is there certain model brands like ATI Mobo or nVidia Modo's? Please help me.

Best way to go about it is, find out what your going to use your PC for mostly, see what your budget is and what components your going to use with your motherboard.

After you have figured them three things out you should be able to narrow down what motherboard is best for you.

I'm going to say "Gaming", but since I did say that how would that help me choose a mobo? and spending about $900 on a computer. I don't know how much mobo's cost.

can cost from 20 bucks to 2000 bucks lol, this is why you need to narrow it down. Ok so you want a gaming rig with the buget of 900 USD.

Do you have any other components in mind that you want e.g. type of CPU (single or dual core) or type of graphics, storage etc...

Also im guessing this is your first build too?

And do you need stuff like OS, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc...

Mobo 101 is a good place to start. You really need to choose your platform/CPU before you start looking for a motherboard.

Are you looking for an AMD or Intel? Which socket and CPU type? Will you be using SLI or Crossfire (I assume not with a $900 budget)?
