How to chose a new laptop??

Hi!

I need a new laptop but I am kind of lost in the jungle of brands and models...

So: my budget is.. not sure! Well, not more that 900 euros even though I would prefer less.. It just depends on the computer,if it's worth the money or not!

I need to be able to burn cds and dvds, it has to be fast when using skype and other similar softwares, big memory, I would say 2G ram. I mostly use words and excell, plus I want to be able to listen to music and watch movies.

And I would like it to last a FEW years!

Where I live now, almost everybody has a mac.. it seems they are happy with it.. but I just wanted an advise from somebody who is more expert than I am.

So.. do you think you can help me?.. and where to buy it? I live in Canada..
