how to connect tv and lcd screen to pc?

hi all,
soooo.. i bought a DVI/HDMI cabel today and i want to hook it up to my computer. i have an nvidia 8800 gts. i already have my 17" samsung lcd screen hooked up to one dvi, and when i connected the tv into the other dvi i only got the wallpaper and i couldn't see anything that i was opening(movies, etc.) on my TV just the wallpaper.. can i somehow have 2 operational screens? so that what i see on my lcd screen i see on my TV? o and another thing the resolution on the tv i small but when i put the TV as primary screen using nvidia software i could see everything but the lcd screen died.. thx for all ur help :)
btw TV is LG 32"
 
Right now you have 2 operation screens, they just don't show the same thing. You can drag windows onto the second screen. I'm pretty sure this is called "span". If you want the two screens to show the same thing you have to change the settings to "clone" (or something like that).
