How to enter safe mode in XP?

So, I always forget what button do you have to press and when to enter the safe mode in Windows XP? It's an F one, that I know, but with a friends computer it gives a "keyboard error" message.....

*edit* iight, so I found it was f8, and it works good on my computer, but on my friends computer it gives the "keyboard error" message, how come?

That error appears if you press F8 too soon, before the BIOS keyboard test is complete. Press it only after the system summary appears on the screen.

when i fried my prosser i put it in safe mode and it lat it run for a goood 3 and a half hours befor it froze and i had 2 let it sit for 5 min 2 kool down (i onlay did that is because it took 7 days 4 them 2 send my new prosser)
