How to find if LAPtop is stolen

i was wandering if there is a way to tell what hardware come on a laptop before u buy it. I have some 1 that want to sell me a laptop and i want to know if it is stolen or not its a IBM thnkpad T43

The original purchaser should have all of the original materials like software and Windows recovery disk, sale receipt or invoice, and other paperwork that matches the actual serial number stamped on the id tag. If there is no serial number and original "anything" be suspicious until confirmed by other means.

here, IBM/lenovo has to be registered for the after-sale service, so maybe you could get the former information from the local service center of IBM/Lenovo
