How to find out the largest amount of ram my laptop will support

I have a toshiba Quosimo laptop from around 2008 and i am wanting to upgrade the ram in it from 4gigs to either 8 or 16. I found some 16gig on amazon on sale for the same price as the 8 and was wondering how i could tell the max my mobo in the laptop will support. I am needing a bit more ram for Minecraft because i am having to dedicate almost 70% of my ram to java to keep minecraft from lagging and saving chucks after a few min of playtime.

What's the specific model? You can check http://www.crucial.com by putting in the make and model. That will tell you how much RAM the computer will recognize.

If its from 2008 I doubt it will accept anything higher than 8gb. It might only accept 4gb max.
