Hi,

recently bought a new computer for music recording. I loaded the software

using onboard sound card. then later added an external soundcard. But this

has caused problems. I've tried reinstalling the music software, then

reinstalling the drivers, I've tried disabling the onboard sound card. Nothing

works. Each time you reinstall something the computer seems to remember the

settings for the last installation. So I'll have to reformat the hard drive. Wipe

everything and start again.

But how do you completely wipe it ?

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for the onboard sound? Do that and then when you reboot, disable the onboard sound in BIOS. I'd also go ahead and uninstall the drivers for the sound card too before rebooting.

If all else fails, boot off your Windows CD and it'll give you the option to format your HDD before installing.

I don't know how to uninstall the drivers for the onboard soundcard. It's part

of the motherboard and the driver disc included many different items. I've

looked through my system and I can't see anything that is obviously a sound

driver.

You must disable the old sound card in the system bios. So when the computer starts press f2 or whatever is setup menu. look in the bios for somthing that refers to sound card, and disable. Go ahead reboot and load drivers.

Right click on My Computer and then go to Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers. Look for anything labeled with the word Audio and right click to uninstall it. Reboot, go to BIOS, disable the onboard audio, continue to Windows where your video card should be detected, then install the new drivers.
