I just buy a new laptop acer travelmate 6292. I try to format it to windows XP professional but fail. The XP cd can reboot but cannot detect the laptop hardisk so i cannot create new partition and cannot format it. I hear that to format windows XP, it is necessary using external hardisk to format, but how? Can someone tell me? Thanks...

You probably need XP SATA drivers. Click here to download the drivers for your laptop. Click the "Drivers and Utilities" drop down menu and select "F6 SATA driver." There, you can find any other drivers that you may need.

Thanks for your reply. I had try your method but it doesn't work. Same problem occur. Normally, when format laptop, it will in to a screen say that "create partition" the problem now is i can't detect any hardisk space. So, did you know the format method using an external hardisk? Thanks for yur help..

You should be able to put in the disc the came with your acer. when you boot up, enter setup and go to the order your laptop boots in. Make sure it is on cd/dvd drive, put the disc into the drive, save you settings, and reboot.

You should be able to start to process as it will start from the acer disc you put in...during the setup/install it will take u through what u need to do. Including partition...etc.

If that doesn't help/work, then we need to look at something else.
