How to get the Start Icon back into the L lower corner?

My Start icon has moved from the L lower corner into the upper R corner
(and with a bunch of other icons now into the R section).

I had lost my address bar, but I could see it down at the bottom, so I was trying to move the lower dividing line upward - then everything went over to the R side.

How do I get it back the way it was?
Thanks

u should just be able to drag the whole thing back to the bottom of the screen. but first, right click the taskbar and make sure "lock task bar" is not checked. then go ahead and move it.

I can find "lock the tool bar" (under View), but I can't find "lock the task bar" - where do I look for it?

if u right click the blue task bar, a small menu pops up. one of the options on this menu is lock the taskbar. second option from the bottom of the menu.

there doesn't seem to be a blue task bar (normally there would be a task bar at the bottom)
instead there is a grey R hand section - this is where the Start icon is located in the upper R corner

when I R-click on that grey section, the menu says "Toolbar, Cascade Windows, Tile Windows, Minimize all Windows, and Properties"
I checked "Properties" - TaskBar properties - and Taskbar Options and this menu offers: Always on Top, Auto Hide, Show small icons in Start Menu, or Show Clock

There must be somewhere else to find the answer

If you are using Windows XP then you will see the "lock the taskbar".. but in Windows 2000 and earlier you will not see that.

Also 2000 and earlier the taskbar is gray which is what Robin sees.

Are you unable to drag the entire taskbar to the bottom?

it's Windows 98
the grey section on the right (with the Start icon in the upper R corner) - I can move the vertical dividing line to the left or right, but exactly what do I need to do to drag the section back down to the bottom?

click and hold any part of the gray taskbar... not where the start is.. not where the icons on the bottom right are... not on the lines... but anywhere else. then drag it over.

okay - I've been able to drag it down to the bottom, with Start where it was in the lower L corner
now the address bar is at the very bottom of the screen, so how do I get it back up near the top?

address bar as in IE address bar?... drag and drop is the key to moving almost everything in the world Microsoft products...

I was using IE then on Google to the computer forum

right now the address bar has nothing in it - it's an empty white bar (it usually indicates the address where ever I happen to be)

I've tried r-click to drag, or L-click to drag but nothing happens - I must be leaving out a step?

Okay now is when you have to right click and uncheck the "Lock the Toolbars" option...

this'll make you laugh - now I managed to move to address bar - but it ended up beside the Start button

guess I need a few more steps

you mean the address bar on the taskbar? get rid of it!

right click on the taskbar, go to toolbars click off of address....

I think I figured it out - there is a line below the toolbar up above with the word Address in it, and a divider line between the word and Norton Antivirus - so I tried to move that short vertical line to the R - and it gave me my address bar with the computer forum address in it. Problem solved.
(I still have the empty address bar at the bottom - but I'll sort that out sometime).
Thanks for your help through so many of the steps
