how to hook up a wisp conection

There is a wireless conection about 1/4 of a mile away from my house and i was wondering if conecting 2 2.4ghz antannas to a 1w 2.4ghz amp to a router would pick up the signal considering i get no signal at all here. I do know that the signal only caries to a maximum radius, but just dont know how to determin where the signal compleetly disipates.
 
Look up a Cantenna on google, they are cheap to make and effective with the right equipment, especially if you don't want to spend a whole lot.

You can find places that have them premade as well, ready to buy for cheap :)
