As far as software goes, I'd check out Best Buy, maybe places like OfficeMax & OfficeDepot. If you wouldn't mind reading more about it, those places should have some books, plus Barnes & Noble should have other books that would have all the information that you'd ever need. Come to think of it, those books should have some CD-ROMs with them as well.

When come to think about it, actual application is better than reading e-books. but of course, you need to when you want the orthodox of networking. But if you would just want to live with it, you have to perform it routinely because mastery must not be in words,it must be in application.

:D You and me both the_other_one. You cant beat on the job training. Plus google will have more tutorials than you can shake a stick at.

Hi luckybird

Im new to networking to mate, and i tell you what buying a book was £40 badly spent, Started to read it got a headache put it i a cupboard. And as The_Other_One said get some old Pc's and stuff to mess about with.
Use google and good forums like this one when you get stuck.
Normally its an easy solution that you just cant see yourself.

Have Fun Mate

I took two of the CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate)courses last year, and i am going to continue it this year. If you want, I can send you the course material. You can learn quite a lot from the computer material, and it has cool labs and quizzes and stuff. I'd also recommend getting some hubs, switches, and routers, and see if you can get them networked. That's what we did during our labs in the back of the classroom (we used some cisco 2600 routers :D ) Good luck anyways
