How to increase internet speed?

Get a new ISP! Get rid of limewire if your using. Do regular cleanups and virus scans. Virus's can hog just about anything on your pc including internet speed.

Pretty bad huh? lol. I don't use lime wire or any downloading programs like that.

What should a decent download and upload rate be? I compared mine to some other people and they get like 10,000+ kb/s and it gets me depressed.. lol.

I wish i had your upload. Better than mine, though not by much.

Yeah. You should find a new ISP.

Are you running verizon dsl? The main problem with dsl services is a great lack of what they advertise! With FIOS and a new IE booster the 768kps is now seeing a 3mb and even 7mb boost with a new signup and new dsl router.

Eventually you will have the opporunity for FIOS if not already available in your location with fiber optics used there for a tremendous boost over the lagging behind typical dsl service. WiFi so far is another story howver where a cab driver can bump you offline when passing by with a business band two way! yech!

Gee? and everyone raved at how much better cable was over dsl. Har! The worst offender however is seeing the ads for internet booster for dial-up like the ads for Netzero which amounts to a part of the name there. "0" :P

cohen hit the nail on the head there with a change of ISP or service plan depending what is available. That's being looked into here presently for a consideration of moving up without a need for a T-1 line for hard wired dsl. But wireless? Even Verizon techs were having fun when they first started offering that one! :P

Charters not bad.

I found out a couple of hours ago that I'm moving houses so I suppose I'll change my ISP when that happens. What should a good download and upload rate be?

When selecting the exact same test server more then once the results changed each time. For actual testing you would need a closed network without seeing different volumes of traffic coming up with different results for a far more accurate reading of the actual speed. As for upload and download speeds those will vary depending on the type of connection, ISP, and again volume of traffic depending on location as well as the ISP's own servers for that region.

The variables make it impossible to point at just one set of rates. The faster the better is always the preferred. Hopefully you end up with the best ISP and plan for the new location.

I used this internet speed test thing http://speedtest.net/ and these are my results.

Does anyone know how to increase these numbers without getting a new ISP?

Put it this way - yours is better than mine!

This is mine!

I just did mine then - my upload has been better.

I know its not completely accurate, but none the less my speed should be somewhere around that number. Hopefully I can get a better ISP. :)

Take me with you. :D

To increase speed, transform into super saiyan phase 3 and then blast a Kamehameha the opposite direction from which you're facing and boom you'r up and flying ;)

Nah but really, what you can do is uninstall any toolbars that you may have on your explorer. Those things can give you internet slowdowns. Also check out Google's Accelerator feature.

Most of the addon toolbars are nothing but adware magnets that leave your system far more vulnerable when IE as the primary browser. The only advantages some miight offer is a popup ad blocker and a choice of default search engine. But other then that they are usually more of a problem creator and can drag things down at times.
