how to install internal hard drive

Its pretty much the same procedure for IDE or SATA, its just the connection to the motherboard and power that is different. You just open you case, find an empty drive bay space, slide your new drive in, screw it in and connect it up. Then close your case and you are done.

The mounting is the same for sure since the hole measurement and thread size for the fasteners are standardized for atx. The difference between ide and sata is simply with the data cable and power connection. With an ide drive you will have to set the drive's jumper according to the position on the ide cable mainly end or middle connector.

You will note that many prebuilt systems is you may not a jumper plug since those are designated cable select instead of master or slave. When adding a second ide type on the primary cable unless the opticaly is already slaved there you would set that to either slave or cable select if it isn't recognised.

For a sata drive there are no jumper settings to worry about but see a different type of power connector and 7pin data cable. The image here shows how a sata data cable looks over the typical flat ribbon ide cable seen in a prebuilt system.

The large wide black plug coming from the power supply will be the power for a sata type drive if the supply and board are sata capable. With an old system that would be a question while just about all newer prebuilds are geared towards sata.
