what kind of computer do you have? are you able to list the exact hardware components of your system? if so, that would be more than helpful...

I dont really know much about it.. It's my Fathers and I kinda got a virus on it... So I had to reformat the whole thing..:( I think the computer was built from scratch..

AMD athlon 64 processor
3400+
2.21GHz, 512MB of RAM

That's all I know about it... I cant find any CD's at all... I thought that the speakers would just install themselfs now I installed the hardware for the motherboard...????

You need to find out the sound card you have.

Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware >Device Manager > And click on the "+" symbol next to the Audio Controller icon, then tell us what it says

yups... and with my experiences in the past.. it'll have nothing there.. or have an unknown device..

i hope its not the case for you.. if it is.. you might have to go to
START>RUN
and type in dxdiag or navigate to PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>System Information.

if it still doesn't give you anything... you might have to manually take a look at it in your pc. or if its onboard.. you might have to search for your motherboard sound card online, thus assuming that you know your motherboard or dont have a driver cd for it.

i had the exact same problem as you have. i was fed up with trying to figure out what was wrong so i just bought a $10 soundcard. hope this helps
