how to use the screensaver in Windows XP to Lock my computer (need to key-in password while resuming windows), but not log-off.

thank you.

Under display properties, choose the screensaver tab, you will see a check box that says "on resume, password protect" check this and it will prompt for a password to bring out of screensaver mode.

I have tried this way,but the problem is it will log-off the system. After key in the password, then it is need to manualy select the user at the welcome screen.Have any idea that i can protect my computer by using screen saver and password but the computer still can keep working without log off?

thank you

I need this function is because my PC running CCTV 24 hour.so,I need the Screen saver to lock the computer but not log off.

if i switch off the user switching then
(1) i still need to key in the password when resuming windows.
(2) when the screen saver running then my computer system wil auto log off.

Q 1: Have idea that the computer still can working while the screen saver running. and the screen saver protect by password.

thank you.

You could do it this way:-

1. Set a password for your user area/ account,
2. Go to Screen Saver>>> and check the box labled "On resume, display Welcome Screen" then click ok.

That way you will be directed to the welcome screen but will not be logged off. You enter your password and your account comes on, but it will not need to load as you weren't logged off. :)

P.S. It would be best to set the screen saver to 1 minute to test this. :D
