I have been trying all day to create the bootable knoppix CD to get my new PC working. I had to change mobos and now XP doesn't work, so I am trying to get linux on so I can at least use the machine until my copy of windows 7 ships.
I tried just extracting the iso file and burning it via windows cd maker wizard or whatever it is, but it didn't work. It promted me to press any key to boot from CD, so I did, it paused to read the CD, and then proceeded to boot from the hard drive and load the dead windows XP. I removed the hard drive and tried again and got an error saying something along the lines of "FAILURE: insert a bootable CD" or something like that. I also tried booting using my USB but my mobo doesn't support that, and I can't use floppies because I don't have a disk or the drive to do that. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions for making a bootable CD using Nero 9? I am currently downloadin the trial (It is going at an agonizingly slow 75kb/s so it will take about another half hour, so please take your time in describing what to do. Thanks!
Oh, and remember, I am doing this on another PC, an XP based one, but the PC I want to use this on will not load windows. I get as far as the login screen in XP, but it asks for the product activation key and apparently my license is only valid for the PC it came in, which is determined by the Mobo. Since the mobo is improved and not from the same manufacturer, it doesn't work.
