Hey,

I need to make an ISO file bootable to use for a Virtual Machine. I've made the Windows XP files(which is what I need to make bootable) into an ISO file but I don't know how to make it bootable. It doesn't work when I capture it in Virtual PC. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Ali J.

P.S.: I used "PowerIso" for making the file.

How exactly did you go about making the ISO?

The best way to do it is to just make an ISO by copying the XP disc.

Another way is to copy the contents into a folder and make an ISO using nLite.

Well, depending on what the ISO is an image of, you shouldn't need to "make it bootable" - if the image you write the disc from is bootable, then the disc will be bootable...

Example - I have a Windows XP Professional SP3 ISO. When I wish to make a WinXP CD, I just open ImgBurn, click "Write Image File to Disc," select my ISO from my file system, and click the write button at the bottom of the screen. A few moments later, the CD drawer opens to dispense my new bootable Windows XP CD.

The only reason you would need to make an ISO bootable is if you were creating your own custom image for a utilities CD or something... then you would need to install a boot-record of sorts... but somehow I get the feeling that's not what you're trying to do...?
