How to mod

If I want to make a mod for half life 2, do I have to know C++? Also are their any books/websites that show how to mod it? What are good books/websites for learning C and C++ assuming I now nothing about programing?
 
Well it all depends on what you want to mod in HL2. I just make models and skins for my models. If you want to do some serious modding it would be good to know how to code but if the things you want to achieve are easily done they can often be done by making scripts using the commands in the Source engine.
