How to prevent recovery of deleted files

What could I do to prevent someone from recovering deleted files that are private? (using software like "PC inspector file recovery")

I know that there are many software like FileShredder2.0 which delete permanently any file.

But what to do with all the private files that I have deleted with the recycle bin in the last years?
I have looked and a lot of them could be recover....

You can use a program like Eraser Portable to over write the free space on your hard drive. Programs like this can't get everything 100% but they are close and will work fine unless your in the NSA or CIA.
