How to reduce dust?

Ive just realised how dusty our place is.. i've had my computer for about a month, and its a dusty as heck - so i'm gonna clean it in a couple weeks after my exams are finished...

apart from vacuuming my room every day, how can i stop or minimise the amount of dust that builds up on my PC?

In a couple of weeks (also after exams) i'm gonna build a little wooden table for it to sit on so its not on the carpet anymore... i reckon that'd help, and i've thought about getting thin sheets of coarse foam and lining the back of the fans, but then would that would reduce heat flow?

you cant stop the stuff. i just recomeend using compressed air inside the case every month or so. by the way, is that a chevelle in your avatar?

yeah i'm planning to build a little wooden table after exams are finished - that might help... what do you think about lining the back of the fans with foam?

no - its an aussie classic - Holden GTS Monaro V8 (not mine though...)

Foam would work as long as it isn't too think and just don't put it on the exhaust fans since there's really no point to it. My case has some sort of foam-like filter on the front fan and it keeps out the dust a lot better than without it.

yeah when i said foam i mean the really thin stuff... i know you can get thin foam thats coarse, so it lets a fair bit of air through.... i'm just not sure if stops the dust so well.
its gotta be better than nothing though.
yeh i'll give it go - on the front and side fans...

some sort of filter is the ideal solution, i'm sure you could pick up some sort of thin film from a DIY store that wouldn't restrict airflow too much. Its amazing just how much dust a filter can catch :D

Placing the computer onto the table may greatly help reduce the dust getting onto the computer, but you should also watch carefully the things that you do around it. I had the same problem, but now, after checking regularly, things have changed.

An easy and simple solution would be to go the a local store and get some swiffer dry sweeping cloths. just trim one to cover the hole over the fan intake part. If the case didn't come with a fan-mounting part just tape the clooth over the hole.
