how to remove a geforce 7600 heatsink?

I feel like an idiot having to ask this, but how on earth am i supposed ot get it to come off? all the other geforce heatsinks I've had(geforce3,4 and 5) have plastic tabs that hold it on... this one has metal tabs with star shaped ends going into the heatsink.

I'm planing on replacing it with a copper heatsink that was on my fx5200. I've got a feeling it'll be better(yet noisier) than the stock fan and heatsink.

Wow thats a new one on me, my 7600 had the plastic tabs I believe. I will double check but thats a first for me.

look on the left corner of the fan. see the metal stud?

the smaller heatsink to the right of the fan is what I've seen on every other heatsink.

Oh Yeah, I see it now. It looks like the fan and HS are all the same thing, I don't think you're meant to be able to take it off, I think if you did, you've have a hard time trying to get another one back on...

You know its not going to make a big difference anyway, the 7600 is not a very big heat generator. Even if you put custom cooling on, its not going to impact on performance a great deal.

Just run it normally and save up for a beefier card. Its a waste of time trying to put more cool on a 7600, you just do need to because it doesn't generate much heat, unlike some ATi cards which are heats. Especially the X1950 series, they are HUGE and they still get beaten by the 7900 which has a puny fan and heatsink like the 7600.

To do that i need a new motherboard, processor, ram, etc. I just bought this card for pretty cheap and I'm asking because I'm trying to overclock it.

You COULD just take it off, apply some AS5, and get some case fans. Should help with cooling and overclocking.

I'm asking HOW to get it off. I don't understand why because it's different than the plastic tabs.

I'm running 4 extra case fans a well.

I have AS5 and a copper heatsink+fan, but i cant' get the stupid heatsink off.
