I need to re-install XP, but i have lost all of my back-up disks except for XP. I want to save some programs, but mostly microsoft word. How do i do this, because i no longer have the install's on the computer, just the programs themselves. Also, since i don't have my driver's CD, do i need to save my drivers? Can anyone give me a summary of what you need to do to perform a re-installation?

it seems like on the XP cd, if you put it in while windows is running, you can choose either a clean install or a reinstall, but i cant remember, because i always go with clean.

...do a clean install the reinstalls suck....but about saving programs, get an external harddrive, or burn a dvd, maybe a cd if it fits. Just go into c:/programfiles/microsoftoffice/ and drag the entire folder i onto what ever storage media you may be using. Then after the install, just go back onto the storage and drag it off it back into the directory and you are all set. However, if you do this, the program won't "install" it will just be another folder. So if you ever want to delete it for any reason, you need to delete the folder, you cant go into uninstall programs and uninstall if due to the fact it wont be there ;)

and about drivers, you can usually find all of you device's drivers on there respective websites

does that even work. most prgrams you cant do that with unless it either runs off an .exe and some.dll's which are all in the same folder, but it doesnt put anything in the registry

u dont need to save ur drivers, evrything will kinds work when u do the CLEAN install, then with windows update it should take care of all of your drivers

Unless yer doing a repair installation, its not gonna happen

You can get drivers from the net (now to avoid problems) rather than hunt them down

And what happens if windows doesnt have network drivers? ;)
