How to search the registry

Is there a way that I can just paste a long key name (i.e. location or path) into a "search" option in regedit so that it will go directly to that location?

I know that you can use the "find" option, but I can never get it to go the precise location. I only use that to search for certain names found throughout the registry.

I also know that I can save locations in the favorites menu, but I am referring to the first time you want to go to a location.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good free registry editor, that would be great.

Well windows regestry editor is probably the most common registry editor (and i'm pretty sure it's free) if that's what you're refering to, though it usually comes with the pc, and if you don't have windows you can't get it.

once in regedit hit F3

Thanks, but no, that does not work. What I want is the following: let's say you give me this:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
and instead of clicking my way through the folder tree until I finally get there, I just want to be able to paste all that into some search function that will take me there directly in one click. If I try that with the "find" or "find next" command, it spends some time searching the entire registry and eventually comes up with no results. I also don't want to just "find" or "find next" for the terms "user shell folder" and have to hop through all the places in the registry where that shows up. I guess the function I am looking for might not exist for regedit.

Are you referring to "regedit" that comes with windows - in other words Start // Run // regedit? If so, then yes I have that (as mentioned above) but it's not that great of a registry editor. But maybe (and probably) you are referring to something else. I'll google it and see what comes up for that. Thanks.
