How to speed up internet

I just got comcast broad band about a week ago and it was working real fast and it slowly started to get slower and slower so I was wondering if it some way I could speed it up. I heard about something called cache and I should restart it but I don't really know, but does anyone know how I can get it going faster. I also downloaded lime wire and I was wondering if that has a big part in this problem.

Have you checked your system for any spyware/adware/viruses? Those can really bog just about anything down.

not sure if its the same with you guys but iover here in the uk it takes about 10 days or so for a new internet connection to settle. In that time its good to reboot the router once a day so that it establishes a new connection.

My migration to another provider meant my speeds were all over the show. Downloads went up and down, at their lowest i could just manage 35kb/s

Now its settled it happily chugs away at 700kb/s
