how to speed up my computer?

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 lap top. It is about 3-4 yrs. old. It seems extremely slow. I have upgraded the ram memory to 512 megabytes. I don't want to overclock anything. Can anyone help me?
 
is it using a 4200rpm drive? you can try upgrading to a 5400-7200rpm drive and another stick of 512mb. what os are you running?
 
No place to put another 512.
So basicaly making the memory 1 Gb will cost a little less than $100. Not worth the rest of the computer. i am defragmenting right now. I'll check the hard drive. anyone know the price of a 2.5 inch 40 gb hard drive.
 
is it worth upgrading my hard drive to 72,000 rpm for the price or is it better to just get 1gb of ram for $100?
