Im less then a day old on ubuntu and want winxp.
uninstall ubuntu then install winxp If at all possible. To add I do have winxp cd
I don't want to pay someone to this so if anyone can give me step by step directions to complete this task that will be greatly appreicated

thanks in advance

You don't have to uninstall Ubuntu... just boot from the XP installation CD and it'll guide you through, you'll need to repartition/reformat your hard drive though (it asks you to do this during the installation). Basically, you'll just install XP "over" Ubuntu.

Just like what hackapelite wrote. Slap that XP disc in and install. Do it one hundred times and you're still good to go Like 80's Mountain Dew.

To install xp? Yeah, all you do is insert the disc and restart your computer, as soon as it starts it's boot up you will see in the bottom right corner (one of the corner usually right) it will tell you to push a button for a option of BOOT, mine is F2. Push it as soon as it shows that in the corner. It will take you to another screen asking you what to boot from and one of your options will be dvd/cd or something like that, push your arrow keys till that is high lighted and then push enter and then it will start to install xp. Just answer the questions it ask.

If you decide to keep ubuntu feel free to ask as many questions as possible and we will help you.

Well to answe your questions.....

1) I am sorry cannot help you with this one

2)You need to download a different video player, the one that comes with it is crap, install vlc player. You must understand that ubuntu is extremely easy to use when you learn how. There are a lot of software you may change out to fit you needs but all the software available is free (no cost) and the Linux OS is designed to customized to your personallity.

3)If you are running the latest ubuntu distro then go applications (top left) and at the bottom there is a "Ubuntu software center", you can can find all your downloadable software there including vlc media player. When you open it you will see a search bar and type in VLC. It will pop up click on it then on the right you will see "install" click on it. The ubuntu software center is awsome cause all the software in there is legal and free. You will notice when it opens there will be categories for the software, just look through there sometime and you will be amazed at the software support linux has these days, if you what to learn more just click on the program and a info button will appear. Click on that and it will tell you what it does and even provide screen shots of the program. If you are looking for more support then that is why we are here. Also google has been good to me for looking up software.

4) You cannot really compare Ubuntu to winxp, they are two different platforms. Linux is far more secure from hackers and viruses, and being a unix OS it operates more efficient at running task. I like xp, my only complaint is that it is a old OS that is slowly going away, ubuntu is here to stay and within the year I have started using it, it has been getting much love from the open source/major companies for software development.

At first this may seem difficult just cause it is a new OS to you but I promise it won't take you long to get it. Me personally I find it easier to use then windows.

In that ubuntu software center you download a program called "wine", through this program you can run photoshop. Sony Vegas I don't think is compatible. A video editor though (no where as nice) is Pitivi.

Here is the link for skype to download it.

http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/

make sure you click on the one for ubuntu, 32 bit unless you run the 64 but ubuntu.

You should also try gimp, not as good as photo shop but it is the same concept.

If you are also looking for a good place to do light photo editing and a place to arrange your photos you should use google's picasa
http://picasa.google.com/linux/download.html
scroll down to where it is picasa 2.7 and click on the blue link that looks like this
Free Download (.deb) - for Debian/Ubuntu x86 (32-bit)
