How to use google and google advanced

Been reading up on both of these and it seems that with google eliminating unnecessary words such as prepositions should be done, but still havent got good at narrowing down my search. With the advanced search with google anyone had experience using it, any advice?
 
No i havent used advanced google.
What are you struggling to find? I've found google to be consistently good with finding what i type in. Can't say I've ever even needed to bother with eliminating prepositions and such.
