How will it end? Apple vs. Microsoft

What is your opinion?

Apple vs. Microsoft

Are the two software giants going to be stuck in a perpetual battle until the end of time?
Will Microsoft eventually buy out Apple and reign supreme with a global monopoly on computing systems?
Will Apple slowly overtake Microsoft, and replace it?
Or, will they both join forces and create a friendly cooperative union?

I personally can't tell what is going to happen, but lately I think Apple/Macintosh has been stepping forward in a lot of ways. What do you guys think?


P.S. Remember, please do not make this an Apple or Microsoft bashing/flame thread. The purpose is to discuss the future outcome of the ongoing business rivalry, not which one is "better."
 
It will go on for a long time, microsoft will probably always be the more popular os, but apple has its crowd that won't stray. Apple is gaining some ground though and will continue to do so, considering they can now run windows in boot camp, and there are many more universal applications. Apple has the upper hand when it comes to video and pictures, so unless Apple gives up or starts making apple os available on pc's then it will go on for a long time.
 
Apple already cant compete with the money and business that MS supports. MS will never be able to buy Apple as the FTC would not approve it (monopolistic practices). MS will make their products better, ant integrate into more things, even into the MAC software completely. Mac will always be an underdog, barring any HUGE HUGE HUGE scandal fraud lawsuits or the end of the world. Ms is way to far ahead in development and market control. Apple should stick to more personal device like ipod and laptops which embrace the MS software.
 
I think that apple will eventually die out in the OS range, but continue to rule the mp3 player department.

As long as its ipods are making it money they will continue to make their os. It really is amazing how many people prefer mac os over windows. There is a big group who do and that will keep them alive.

Hmmmm, if Apple becomes popular enough, then people are gonna start writing viruses for it. THEN what will Apple do?

I know, i am just saying that right now it is gaining popularity...
 
i think they will both survive a long way into the future, but also other OS's will play a much larger part in the computing world
