For video card, I currently have: Intel 946GZ Express Chip Set Family
Chip Type: Intel GMA 3000

Windows: Windows XP Media Center Edition
RAM: 1GB
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo

Therefore what is a good/average uses video card I should upgrade to and how would I do that?

Please help

You're 'Video Card' is actually built into the motherboard, it's what we call 'onboard video'. An actual video 'card' would go into an expansion bay, typically AGP, PCI, or PCI-E. What is the make and model of your computer, and what price range are you looking for? By telling us this, we will know what type of expansion bay your motherboard would have, and can recommend a video card.

what do you mean by the make and model of my computer?

Sorry I am quite new to this.....I have the tool CPU-Z so would that help?

PRICE RANGE:$100 -$170

CPU-Z detects your motherboard and other info. When upgrading a card you need a price range. It also depends what your using it for. Extreme gaming? the 8800 series. mild? Just word procesing?

yea could you tell us what make (hp,dell) and also the model number (pavilion 340, inspirion 900) what games do you play?

You're obviously not getting this...

Did you build you're system yourself? Of course not, because you don't know about video cards, so that means that you bought it built.

What is the brand name on the from of your case? Is it Dell? Is it HP? Maybe eMachines?

After that, what line of Dell or HP or whatever is it? Is it a Dimension? If so, what type... E520? 9200?

What is the full name of your computer? That is what we need to know. If you were to look up the specs of your computer on the manufacturer's website, what name would you use to look it up?

EDIT:
Is MDG who makes your computer? If so, what model is it? Horizon? Vision? Apton?

I have decided to get the: EVGA GeForce 7900 GS KO

Now my computer has 450W Power Supply

So would it satisfy the EVGA GeForce 7900 GS KO requirement:

  • [*]Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
[*](Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 20 Amp Amps.)
  • Minimum 500 Watt for SLI mode system.
  • (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 28 Amp Amps.)
[*]An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card)z
My motherboard is the 2007 Intel 946GZIS-DDR 775 Vista Mainboard and it has a PCI-Express x16 Connector but what about the "6 pin PCI-E power connector part {what is it??}"

does it have 20 or 28 amps? and does it have a pcie cable? you also need to remember the other things that you are running off that power supply so it is better to get above minimum requirement.

Yes, and while you're at it take some pictures inside the case so we can figure out what in the world kind of computer you have, and what slots are available.
