How's this Look for a PC I'm Building?

Alright. I have some parts that I'm looking at. Please remember that this is my first built PC and that I am NOT looking for some crazy gaming computer. Just one to experiment with parts, run the internet, check email, and be reliable for file storage etc... Some of the parts may seem excessive for just an internet/file storage/word document PC like 80GB HD and 512MB RAM, but this is because I do hope to frequently upgrade the PC but I just wanted to start small with the mobo/processor/vid card. Remember, I come from a PC with 500MHZ PIII processor, 8MB Vid card, and 8.2GB HD :p

Motherboard:

Case:

Floppy:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16821103203

Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822145082

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820161636

Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819104159

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814145067

I have a CD drive, mouse, and keyboard already so I won't need those (sound will be onboard). Could you let me know if all of these parts are compatible with eachother (my main concerns are mobo/processor/vid card as i know these aren't always compatible.) Also, will the SATAII Hard Drive be compatible with the mobo? And then also, is there anything else I need to buy or does that cover about everything (like are fans/cooling devices included? and if not, is it essential that i buy them?)

Also, the processor, HD, and floppy all say OEM; will i need to purchase anything seperately with these?

Thanks!

I don't think DDR2 ram will be compatible with your motherboard. (DDR3 = 240pin and your mobo supports 184pin)

Video card, mobo, and processor are all compatible.

I think you'll have to buy your own hsf because the processor is an OEM one.

Ok ,the hard drive is not compatible, you need a ide drive, i suggest
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144233
this drive gives a little more bang for buck

also the ram is not compatible, not by a long shot :)
pick up some 2 x 256MB kingston Value
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141432

also note that the processor you listing is oem, meaning it does not have a heat sink
cheapest i could find on new egg was
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835166029

Shame you're not in the uk, i could give you a hsf free :)

also that graphics will not play much in the way of games so you could even go cheaper if you want

(your board only goes upto 4x agp, so there's no point getting 8x, well not much)

Hmm, a build for $300. Maybe a better ram. CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS512MB404-49

drunkbum222: internet surfing, email checking, school work, and maybe some video editing?

XHotxEx791: whats the difference in the RAM?

Also to anyone, I am selling my old PC to get money to pay for this and am wondering, what should I use to format the PC so that it will be clean and ready to send out?

Thanks!

07mackenzie, i am sorry that i didn't reply sooner and left you in the hands of this rabble.
If i were you i would ignore everything anyone said to you between my post #6 and now.

PC3200 maybe instead of pc2700.
Why would he want to waste money bying ddr400 ram when his motherboard is only rated at ddr266. I agree its better and i fact in my post you'll see i also suggest it, but twined with a motherboard change!

Lets look through your parts first.
a good choice upgrade from the sempron, this one has a heat sink so you dont need a seperate, as you probably noticed.

Fine, same a before.

well i discussed this on my post #4. But this card is ok if you want to stick by it.

Ok now here are the changes
Do not get this.
Pick up this: (this will be clear with my change to your mobo)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141421
(this saves you = $14.11
Do not get this, upgrade to
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135143
which is $8.75 more expensive. The reason i upgraded you is for ddr400 support, which is an improvement of ddr266 of your old board

Just some IDE cables?
Thats all you will need, oh and keyboard, monitor, cd drive...

no need for that if hes not gaming, just a waste of money really. Get the cheapest ram there is. I did and had no problems.

1. Avoid PCChips and avoid SocketA/462. Something like the ASUS A7V8X-X or A7N8X-X is vastly superior if you insist on Socket A/462
2. Even for an older syste, 13A is on the too-low side

3. DDR2 not gonna work with that motherboard

K cool. And I was thinking of switching to this processor?

VASTLY superior

The FX5200 is arguably a better card
