I need to fix a clients printer, because the scanner does not work. It is a multifunction printer and the client can print to it fine, but when trying to scan it says there is a communication error. There is no communication because i can print to it. I've tried re-installing the software, the printer, fixscan.exe, and installing new driver's but can't seem to get it to work.

Has anyone had this problem or might be able to help? I'm not really a printer fixer as i do networking. Thnx

Try reinstalling the driver and the utilities that came with the printer from Add/Remove Programs. Make sure the printer doesn't show up in 'Control Panel->Printers and Faxes' anymore. If it's still there, delete it.

Next, disconnect the printer and start installing the software. There are certain printer drivers that must be installed with the printer disconnected. The install program asks you to connect the printer to the computer when the time is right.

Thanks this worked. I unistalled the Printer and related software and this removed the driver as well. When I re-installed the software adn the driver it was all good.
