Hp Compaq nc 8000 laptop

My son has this laptop and he dropped it off his bed.On switching it on it goes to the black screen with start up in safe mode,start windows normally etc..on clicking any of the options it goes to windows xp screen and then reverts back to the black options screen..any ideas?????it was a 2nd hand laptop when we bought it for him and dont want to be throwing money at it for it to cost more than a replacement.
any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'd first check do scandisk. If you don't know the process, you will need something like a windows xp disk. Book the CD and choose R to repair. Choose your partiton probably 1, and then run the command chkdsk c: /F /R.

You might need more help so write back again.
