How can I make one? There's a partition on my hard drive for the recovery of factory software, driver, etc...including Vista. I made a restore disc using HP's software. But when I look in the disc...I see all the junk software that the computer came with, but no Vista.

I know that the partion has vista on it (although I can't open it to look at the contents), because I actually did a format of the hard drive the first day I got it due to defective software installed by HP (HP monitor software slowed my system to a snail's pace, was about to return the sytem).

Hope someone can help with this...because what I really want to do, is get that partition back by reformating the whole drive and resinstalling just Vista without the crap software that came with the computer.

I also notice that their is a HP Recovery function in the bios screen on boot. ???

JD,
My mother-in-law bought a computer from a business that was closing down. She ended up having problems - several corrupted drivers and Windows was not running correctly. She did not have restore discs.

I went to HP's site, registered for an account, and was able to order restore discs for a cost of $12 shipped. The discs came in the mail in about 3 days, and worked fine.

I suggest you go the same route. Go to HP's site and get them to send you some CD's or DVD, whatever the case may be. Paying a few dollars for something they should have included sucks, but it's your easiest solution.

since u made the Recovery disc i would just delete that recovery partition (which can be done in the recovery manager). thats what i did. HP does not give u a full version of Vista.........which sucks. the recovery disc that u made is the same as the recovery partition now.

after a day or two of removing junk software and startup programs i have my new laptop running quite nice now :)

i would like to try using a full version DVD of vista to reformat but just use the HP serial code........dont know if that'll work tho.
