HP DV9500 HDMI audio support?

I have an HP Pavilion DV9500 laptop which has Windows Vista Home Basic and a Nvidia 8600GSM video card. How can I get sound through the HDMI output on the computer? My TV will not accept an auxiliary audio input source while an HDMI input is being used as sound on HDMI connections is always provided via the HDMI cable.

you can go to sound options on the computer, playback devices, and hit the HDMI as the default sound that should use the HDMI to the TV to transfer the sound.
that is the only thing that could be wrong, otherwise it will be the HDMI that has been defected in someway.
