My moms computer at work got a bad bug so I restored it to factory image and now it works fine but won't connect to the internet but it shows it is connected but has little or no conection

It is on a netopia router. There is another computer on that router but it uses wireless

Any ideas
 
Try removing the network adapter from the device manager and reboot. Let Windows find the network adapter and install the drivers. Then update the drivers either on the adapters manufacturer's website or the motherboards website. I guess it would be a good idea to then just update the drivers for the motherboard period.

Or try going into the Network connections and see what it says the problem is, then either diagnose it or repair it from there

okay i dont know when i well be going there again but ill try that stuff. could the router be blocking it from connecting to the internet?
 
If she is using a 3rd party firewall like zonealarm or some internet security program, it could be blocking access until you allow the network into the firewall's safe zone.

she just has some kind of router and then they have at&t for internet provider
 
Then I would suggest updating the network card driver. What brand and model of computer is it?

You most likely need to enter the wep key for it if you use that (most people i know do) its a 26 digit code found if you type 192.168.1.1(for most routers) into your browser from a working computer and copy that and enter to the settings. That is our problem every time we reformat :( its annoying.
(You do need to know username and password to log into your router)

They aren't using a wireless connection on the computer from what I'm reading anyway. So they wouldn't need to enter a security key.
