my asdfjkl;'' and enter button dont respond and i hav 2 push them several times hard so they work, i'm in college so my laptop is real important so i'd appreciate the help

Have you spilled anything on it? If so you can take the keyboard out and pop off the buttons that aren't working right and you will see the little opaque rubber-like things under the button. If you take a small screwdriver, like a mm wide or one for a glasses repair kit, you can pop it through the rubber and scrape the center of the board gently. Try it with just one key first, you might need to scape around a bit and then pop the key back on and see if it works.

oh and seeing how it's a row and that's it, it may be a connection problem with your kb. Take it out and insure the cable is connected securely to the computer.

the weird thing is that when the issue only began about a month after i had it and it still only occasionally happens, i also notice that it tends to not work when i'm on a sofft surface like a bed, could this mean the keyboard isnt screwed in enough or something?

HP HDX16 Keyboard Middle Row Problem

Andy I have the same exact problem and am in India where this model is not yet supported (bought in Hong Kong). The keys asdfjkl;'' and Enter do not work at times. If I even lightly touch the touchpad on/off button then the keys work again for a while. So does not seem to be a loose connection problem.

Were you able to resolve?

I have the exact same laptop with the exact same problem. asdfjkl and [Enter] keys stop working randomly, especially while playing games. I took it into hp while I still had my warranty and they replaced the keyboard, but it did not fix the problem at all. For the past year I have been using an auxillary USB keyboard but it has been quite a hassle. If anyone has any solutions other than "you must have spilled something on it," it would be greatlly appreciated, because I'm the third one on this forum to have those exact keys to give out on me.
Thanks

Solution

Took me a long time but I did solve it. Downloaded the Service Manual and opened up the keyboard and top cover. Not too difficult with the manual but requires patience and there is the risk u may cause more harm than good.

Applied some scotch tape at the places where the flat flexible cables from the touchpad module go to the motherboard. Since then no problem.

Hope this helps. Be careful tho.

Hi guys. I have an HDX 16 and have the exact same problem. (4th person here to have it apparently).

@anant Hi, I just downloaded the manual, and is confused on which part did you apply tape? Why is it the cable from the touchpad not the keyboard? Is it all? Thanks a lot man. My keyboard is getting a bit stressful.
