Hp laptop

I am looking at buying an hp laptop. the r4000 series my question is does a laptop take a special kind of memory? and if so would it be cheaper to upgrade with hp (2gb is an additional $300).

other than hp who else makes a decent 64 bit laptop. and how big of a deal is it to reformat and get rid of all the added bs you get with a branded laptop?

special kind of memory? Yes just a 200pin type. Desktops are 240 pin. As for an upgrade, you can probably get it for a bit less elsewhere, but if you want less headaches & professional installation, you can go directly through them.
