Hello All,

I bought a "project" HP Vista pavillion M9040N desktop box with no hard drives. I bought an HP Restore Disc; installed the second 320GB drive from my other machine; installed a monitor, keyboard and mouse; powered it up ...
<hit F10>, entered the setup program and made the HD the first device, made the CD the 3rd device, made the CD the first boot device, and set it to display the parameters as it loaded.

It displayed the following and then stopped ... and wont proceed.

===========
AMI Bios ...
Press F10 to run setup
Press ESC ...
Initializing ...
3072 ..
USB ...
SATA Port1 Samsung HD ...
SMART ok
Auto detect Sata 2
sata 2 CD ...
Auto detect USB device 1 generic
Auto detect USB device 2
Auto detect USB device 3
Auto detect USB device 4
04 USB Mass Storage devices found and configured
==============

The CD/DVD blinks about 20 times and the HD blinks once and thats it.

Any suggestions on where I go from here?

I have the Vista restore disk in the CD.

I was expecting to get a prompt.

Is there a Master/Slave jumper on the SATA drives like there is on IDE's?

This machine uses a ASUS IPIBL-LA motherboard. It is a quadcore 2.4, 3GB, system.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Tim

The optical drive is a DVD drive or is it a CD-ROM drive? Are you sure you saved the configuration so the DVD drive is the first boot device? Did you change any of the hardware in the computer like the motherboard?

I would also try a Linux Operating System installation disk just to test and see if everything is working. Don't install the Linux Operating System unless you want to.
