HP Pavilion 734n stopped working

My friend lent me his computer to fix.

The computer can turn on but will restart its self constantly and will not respond to a Samsung 940BW LCD. The video card is a AGP Nvidia GeForce FX. When I switched the video card to a lower end one, maybe 8-16 MB one from my other computer that is working with this monitor, it responds and the auto restarting stops but the screen is blank.

What is possibly wrong with this computer?
On my mind I am thinking it is the video card.
Alternatively I also think it could be the hard drive or the OS.

Thanks.

I doubt it's the video card, or the HD, or even the OS. If you're not getting anything on the screen, even with two different video cards, it's something hardware related. Most commonly, a bad power supply. Could a bad motherboard, bad RAM, or many other things...

The monitor did respond after I bought a 300watt power supply-compatible, but the computer would restart when Windows XP Home Edition startup showed continuously until i turned the computer off.

I did a recovery by pressing f10 before startup when the computer was on but no luck.

Any other suggestions?

Never mind The_Other_One I found out it was my Hard drive being corrupt or something when I swapped my lower end desktop hard drive and the HP computer started to run.

Thanks though ^_^.
