I'm looking at the pc for a friend after she was getting the famous windows blue screen. When I boot the pc up it lets you get into setup and the recovery options but doesn't show the os which is vista home premium. I can see a progress bar and microsoft coporatiopn underneath the bar but I do know on my xp it shows windows xp when it boots into the startup screen. The hp goes into the startup but doesn't get into the desktop just hits the bluescreen and restarts constantly. I have started backing up her files to do a complete reinstall but she doesn't remember the administraitor password. I have tried leaving it blank this doesn't work and I can't get into safe mode to reset it without hitting the bluescreen and the pc restarting. All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just gives the technical info which is stop 0x000000f4 (0x00000003,0x83023108,0x83023254,0x84033710 Thanks for the response.

The STOP code tells me there is something wrong with the configuration of your HDD. Did you install any new hardware recently or change your HDD?

It could also be that your OS or HDD is corrupt. You can test your hard drive with a diagnostics utility that can be downloaded from the manufacture's website. What hard drive do you have?

I'm guessing the problem is the OS is corrupt, so a reinstall of the OS should fix this problem. You shouldn't need to enter any password if you reformat your HDD and then install XP from the CD.

Thanks for the info. I went and reinstalled vista and before I did I backed up all the files on a flashdrive but the problem I'm having now is when I go to put the files back on the computer it tells me to enter disc 64. She didn't get any disc with the computer as the os is on a recovery drive on the computer.

I'm not quite sure why it's asking for disc 64...
How did you back up all the files on the flash drive? Did you back up all your files only on that one flash drive?
