I reinstalled windows XP on my laptop and now when i turn it on it goes to the welcome to windows xp screen and it blue screens then shuts off by it self...... I Tried to reinstall it again and it says no hard drive detected.... Can anyone help? should i buy a new hard drive for it and then reinstall windows? Thanks

what you could try is reseating your hard drive again to see if your laptop picks it up then.

so power off the normal way, pull power lead out, remove hard drive, then replace it again, put power lead back in again, power on then see if it finds it then!!! you can then work from there if it fails.

Ok took the hard drive out then put it back in as you said and it just does the same thing. Sits there trying to boot then blue screens and restarts. Now what....... lol

My son has a dv2310us (running vista). He had the same problem. We ended up sending back to HP. If I remember correctly, they had to replace the motherboard.

Sorry to say, this model of laptop had many problems. He had a different issue with it nearly one year after we bought for him. We sent it to HP, and it took them nearly 2 months to get it back. When I called for status, they told me the parts were back-ordered due to high demand, becasue many laptops were having the same problem.

We got lucky because HP extended the warranty by a year. Towards the end of that period is when he had the problem you mention.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

It really sounds like your hard drive is the problem here. Blue screening and it not being detected are both pretty good indicators of this.

one more thing you could try is to go into your bios and change your sata device operation to ATA instead of AHCI. Install the OS then update all your drivers while in Windows XP and change it back when completed. ;)
