I'm ignorent.Can a HP6537 ram be upggaded from 256 or am i thinking to just waste $.?

Yes it can, you just need to make sure you have the correct type, DDR or DDR2.
To find out, go to your BIOS, or setup (it should say hit xx for setup as soon as you start your computer), Google your motherboard, or the easiest would be to just Google your computer model.
Anyway, you can have up to four gigabytes, I'm assuming you have a 32bit OS, but just make sure it's a good speed and the right type.

Go to crucial.com or search crucial memory and download their memory checker. They will tell you exactly what your computer needs.
