HP upgrade

I want to upgrade my HP a1640n with just a MB and CPU if this is feasible and practical for around $300.

A while ago I already replaced the PSU with a 550W Rosewill and the Video card with a PCI express EVGA e-geForce 7600GT 256mb and added an additional 2g of DDR2. I would like to keep the rest of my system.

Is the case proprietary or can I put any micro-atx mb in?

Can and should I do this upgrade?

You should be fine with a micro-ATX. Only issues you may have are with the front panel connectors. If it is a single block you may have to re-wire it if they are individual then no problems. Be sure to check your USB front panel/card reader (if you have one) headers as HP may have used a non standard connector there as well..
