Hi all,

I have this annoying problem with my 2 year old 17" Hp V72 monitor,

Its started making this wierd low pitch squeel and then it stops.

It suddenly starts and lasts for about 30 seconds or so then stops,If i like tap the side of the monitor it stops sometimes too.
Theres no problems at all with the display but its just got the occasional squeel

Could this be a sighn that its about to give up on me?

I am not 100% certain but I think that means the tube inside the monitor is on the way out.... I am sure some one here will tell you if I am right or wrong though :)

Hi thanks for replying,

Well they dont last forever so its probably what you said,I soppose i best start looking around to get a good deal on a one of those flatscreen monitors before it dies on me.

Thanks again for reply. :)

Everyone always thinks it’s "the tube" that’s failing.. The CRT tube it's self can last a very long time, its usually the electronic parts that don't last.

Now in your case, it’s only an annoyance issue not a sign of failure. The way to stop the squealing sound is to lower the refresh rate. What do you have it set to right now anyway?

Is this what you mean by refresh rate?

How do i find that out?:D

Is it this....

H:48.7k
V:60Hz

My brightness & contrast are both set to 50%.

This is normal for a monitor thats going to die within the year. As short as a couple months, you will notice it getting worse later, and possible flickering anf screen fussyness before it completly dies.

Well soppose theres nothing i can do so when it died,It dies.
Just an exuse for me to get a nice flatscreen then:D

You could be right, but IME thats how all my monitors started to die. I could see it ebign the refresh rate if your tring to go higher then is said in the specs though...

Believe me, it’s the refresh rate. Some monitors will make a high pitch sound on certain refresh rates.

Here's how you change the refresh rate: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;311403&sd=tech

Try setting it to 75Hz. But if it still makes noise, try some different speeds, between 60 to 85Hz only…

Well ive set it to 75Hz now so hopefully it wont make any noises,It hasnt so far so fingers crossed.:D

Let you know what happens.:)
