HP w20 goes black

Well, my dad has a HP w20 (20" widescreen) monitor connected to his pc. however, it candomly just turns itself off lately.
you see the screen go darker (as if the backlight goes really low or so) and then the monitor turns itself off (about 0.5 seconds after the screen went darker)

any info about what could be causing this would be usefull. (we are fairly certain its the monitor, and not the grafic's card)

I know this may sound daft but the computer is not set for some kind of hibernation or power saving is it?

no, because the monitor does that sometimes 10 times in a row. (in a row beeing, you turn it on again, 1 second when you got the scren visible, it turns itself off again. )
and it does do it while using it normally (ie, outlook, mediaplayer etc)

hi m8, any chance you and your dad swop monitors, then if if happens to you. you know its deff the monitor, and if your dad still has probloms then its the graphics card
