My monitor has built in speakers that I don't use.

They constantly pop and crackle, and I'm not sure why. I'm using a dvi to hdmi cable (well the little converter plug) on my gtx260.

I can turn the volume all the down on my speakers and that seems to stop it, but I'm trying to figure out what the best was is to combat the problem and not just cover it up.

Is there a way to turn off hdmi sound transfers?

There's no way to turn off the audio in an HDMI input/output since it's built in. However, what speakers do you normally use? It sounds like some sort of interference with another electronic input device on the computer. We had the same issue with just the normal speakers and it ended up being that the speaker input in the back of the computer was rubbing against another cord and making the crackling sound.
