hp windows vista sleep problems

i have a windows vista hp pavilion dv6000 laptop that goes to sleep fine but will not wake up. It has been doing this for a while, but i do remember when it first started doing it if you opened and closed the lid a few times it would resume but not anymore. when you press any buttons move the mouse via built in touchpad and keyboard the light just keeps blinking and never resumes, and holding down the power button for any amount of time does nothing. the only way to make it reboot is to unplug and remove the battery and restart. i have tried many things, like turning off hybrid sleep and looking at command prompt power settings, originally hibernate wasn't an option but i managed to turn it on and it still works fine. i have searched and most of the threads i have found are pretty old and the problem was usually a little different. please help

Have you installed all the service packs?

Yes(there are only one right) i have also installed all updates from hp's website and looked for graphics card updates but couldn't find any. But I did find a lot of other frustrated people with the same problem and no answer.
